«The first thing I do when I come back to Liechtenstein from London is to take a deep breath and enjoy the clear, fresh air.» |
«The art market in London is much more competitive than in Liechtenstein, for example. That also results in more diversity, though.» |
What would we be without the fine arts, without literature, music, film and painting? There is no doubt that we would be all the poorer. Art not only aesthetics our lives, it also gives meaning to them, beyond the level of functionality. Our banking practices and art are based on a similar understanding. Successful banking goes beyond pure effectiveness and functionality. We not only take care of your assets – we also take care of you. Personally, as your competent partners.

The places where you live always shape you. Carol Wyss originally comes from Switzerland, but she grew up in Liechtenstein and nowadays lives in London. Her earliest memories connect her with Liechtenstein. «I packed up my childhood memories and took them with me to London, where I can still vividly recall them. They give me a sense of self. They are part of my identity and helped shape me.» She also says that she misses the marvellous countryside of her native Liechtenstein when she is in the megacity of London. During her visits home she enjoys all of the good things as much as possible: the clear, fresh air, the relaxing and unspoiled countryside and, above all, the fact that everything is small and manageable. When asked how she would explain Liechtenstein to a Londoner, she smiles and says, «It's a mountainous, small but independent principality, has got a parliament, but the Prince could have the last word. You could fit all its inhabitants into the Chelsea football stadium and there would still be space.» Carol Wyss travels between different orders of magnitude. And this keeps her life exciting. |
I just wanted to learn English. Moving to London radically changed Carol Wyss's life. At first she simply wanted to learn English, but then she stayed because she liked the city so much. In 1996 she obtained a master's degree from the Slade School of Fine Art. She enthuses about the London art scene. «The city is chaotic, but full of ideas. There is a large number of different galleries and it's fascinating being able to exchange ideas with international artists.» Carol Wyss's atelier is located in her house. She is also now a mother. At present she balances her life as a mother with her art, which requires excellent time management. During rare breaks from her family and her work she more often than not can be found at her favourite place, the Tate Modern, on the beautiful banks of the Thames. She likes to sit in the café there, among other people interested in art, and let herself be inspired by the current exhibitions. Despite her family commitments her long-term goal is to remain true to her art. |
